COMING-OF-AGE
MR. W. SMITH HONOURED LARGE GATHERING Over 175 friends and relatives gathered in St. Patrick's Hall on Tuesday evening to celebrate the 21st Birthday of 'Mr. W. Smith. The evening was arranged by his mother, Mrs. E. E. Smith and his aunt, Mrs. T. Pepperell (Raliotu) and a very pleasant evening was enjoyed by the gathering. Smith's orchestra provided lively music for the dancing, while Miss M. Griffiths and Mr. J. C. Barraclough contributed appreciated solos. A feature of the evening was the beautiful three-tier Birthday cake made and iced by Mrs. Pepperell, who was also responsible for . all the catering. At a suitable opportunity the guest of honour was called upon to blow out the 21 candles and was then presented with a gold key by his mother. Mr. Smith suitably thanked all present for their attendance and especially thanked his mother and aunt for the happy evening arranged in his honour. Mr. E. Taylor also expressed regret that Mr. F. Smith Snr. was indisposed and unable to be present. Mr. E. Taylor made an efficient toastrnaster and the following toast list was honoured: The King; Guest of the Evening, Mr. J. Ellis—Mr. W. Smith; The guest of honour's parents, Mr. E. Peters —Mr. W. Corrigan; Absent Relatives and friends, Mr. E. Taylor—Mr. W,. Walsh; The Caterer, Mrs. Pepperell, Mr. H. Taylor and Mr. L. Northcott—Mrs. Pepperell; The Press, Mr. E. Taylor —Mrs. Jackson; The Toastrnaster, Mr. J. C. Barraclough—Mr. E. Taylor.
