FOR LOCAL RECRUITS FORMATION OF PLATOON Efforts made by the local branch of the New Zealand Defence Leag-ue towards tlie establishment of a territorial volunteer unit in Upunake are to bear fruit this week, when officers of the Taranaki Regiment will launch a recruiting campaign. Intending entrants are to be met lv r Lieut. W. IT. Alexander in the training gymnasium’ at the Domain on Thursday evening, at 7.30 o’clock, and endeavours are

being made to ensure the attendance of all young men interested in military training. The muster will he for the purpose of attesting recruits and for medical examination. Parades will be arranged and arrangements will be made for the attendance of platoon members at a recruits course at Trentham from July 29 to August 5. Twenty-nine volunteers are reel uired to form a platoon, and recruits must of an a ire between 18 and 32 years, and of a build and heiarht rendering them fit for active service.

military force in tlie world, travelling expenses will be paid, and n complete uniform and equipment will be provided. As previous indications have been that a considerable amount of enthusiasm exists among the

At the present time, the establishment of home defence services is of paramount importance to the country, and the call of duty should be heeded by every public-spirited young man.
