PIHAMA BOY SCOUTS
SWEARING-IN CEREMONY
ENJOYABLE SOCIAL On Friday evening, a large number were present at the above function when an interesting and enjoyable time was spent. Although the movement is\ yet in its infancy, the local troop is male* mg excellent progress and the strength is steadily increasing. The ceremony was conducted by Major Urquhart( Assistant Commissioner for South Taranaki assisted by Scoutmaster G. Bell and Assist.-Masters C. Markham, S. Juli an and W. Allan.
After informing the neiri recruits of the duty expected of scouts and-the many good features associated with the movement, the Major presented tin* lads with badges and a flag. Those receiving tenderfoot badges were Reg. Hiley, lan Segar, Ilex Harrop, Hon. Biley, Bruce Knapp, Keith Julian and Basil McCullum.
A patrol from the Opunake troop was present. At the conclusion of the ceremony a programme of items was rendered, those contributing being : Scout Coup, recitation; Scout Weatherhead, song; Mr lan Clarke, song; exhibition of signalling by Scoui-s Elgar and Weatherhead; Mrs Byars, song; Opunake Scouts, Haka; Heather Ross, dance; Oeo Maoris under the leadership of Mrs Rougonui, poi dance.
Dancing was later enjoyed, the music being rendered by Mrs Morrison, with extras by Mrs L. Whalen and Reg Riley. ' A competition was won by Mrs A. Clarke.
A delicious supper was provided by the ladies.
