Tennis Dance at Oaonui.— Everything- in perfect order fur (lie big' tennis dance at Oaonui on Friday nigdit. Good music will be provided by J. Hooker’s orchestra. Cards for non-dancers and an excellent supper for all.

Another Picnic Coming.— • Another special train will arrive in Upuuake cm Sunday next when the stall of (he Ilawera railway will hold their annual picnic. Providing the weather lb good, another bio- day should be experienced at the beach.

Resumes Teaching.— In another column an advertisement appears stating that Elizabeth L. Brennan, of Puugarohu has resumed teaching in music, singing and elocution. Intending pupils are reminded that if wishing to enter for competitions they should enrol immediately.

Samson Emulated.— An owner of a motor car on the hcach on Sunday found himself in an awkward predicament, when lie found his car had sunk axle deep in the wet sand. However, with the aid of several strong men, the ear was lifted bodily from the sand, and placed on firmer ground.

Assisting the Surf Club.— Several entertainments are to he arranged in order to raise funds to enable the local surf team to attend the competitions at Auckland. Everyone will feel pleased to help the beach guardians in this effort and so show a small measure of appreciation ot their great work each year. A Good Trout Pool. —

Alongside the Pihama Dairy factory is a fairly large pool in the river from which good bags ot (roul have been taken this season. A visitor was shown the place on Saturday afternoon and at one stage 10 large trout were seen in one portion of the pool. All the fish appeared to be in splendid condition and should average in the vicinity of five pounds.

Land and Income Tax. — The Commissioner of Taxes draws attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in today’s issue that the due date of payment of Income-tax is on Thursday, the Sth day of February, 1034. Additional tax will accrue it the tax is not paid on ot before Ist March, 1034. The demands will be posted from the office of the Commissioner of Taxes on or about 2nd February,1034. Demands must be presented with a] 1 payments, and if a demand has not been received the Comissicner should be comunicated with.

Romance. — The “Face at the Window'’ tn he screened at the New Theatre to-morrow ami Thursday nights contains suspense, thrills, mystery and romance woven into one strange arresting drama. “Come on Danger," which abounds with thrills will also ho screened. A British Picture. — The patrons of the New Theatre would be well advised to keep the dates of Wednesday and Thursday, 7th and Bth. February tree for tiro picture “Love on Wheels." This is a very fine picture with an all-British cast and can he thoroughly recommended tor every member ot the family. A Grand Dance. — At a meeting of members of the Horne Nursing Branch of the Bed Cross Society last night, it was decided to hold a dance in the Town Hnvvii on Wednesday, February 14th, with the object of raising funds to allow the local surf team to take part in the competitions at Auckland during February. A Neat Work.— Despite tire comment from outsiders who in courtesy should have forwarded their ideas of how to light a monument to (he secretary of the local association of the B.S.A. before rushing into print, we still hold the view, along with many others, that tlie work is extremely neat hv day and doubly impressive and inspiring by night.
