CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES FINAL STAGE REACHED. Intelest in the championship singles is very marked at present lor the games have reached the linal stage, only two players being iett in, both being one-lifers. Tire final game between J. Wilson played their £ match ol 21 points up and the t closeness of the two contestants i can be gauged from the tact that ( they played 27 heads before the i decision was reached. From then on the game was good to watch, both players sending along excellent bowls with an i almost complete absence of driving. Wilson drew three within a foot of the kitty on the 26th head and the match looked all over, but Smith drew a perfect shot with his last and won the head. Securing a possible on the 27th bead Smith ran out a winner by 21 —18 after a match which was viewed by a good number of interested spectators who were treated to a splendid exhibition by both bowlers. G. A. Smith v. R. Smith. The semi-final game between the above-named bowlers took place yesterday afternoon and resulted in a win for the latter by 21 to 17 after a close game over 25 heads. Early in the match R. Smith gained a handy lead of four points but at the 12th head only one jioint separated them. They were level at the 16th head and again . at the 23rd. Both players, who gave a good exhibition of bowling 1 had difficulty in mastering the ■ wind which was blowing across ■ the green. The 24th head saw R. ’ Smith with 3 up and within one . point of the honour. A single on ' the 25th head gave him the required total.

OFUNAKE TEAM WINS AT NEW PLYMOUTH Competing at the one day tournament held on the West End greens at New Plymouth yesterday, an Opunake rink composed of Messrs A. J. Brennan, Ct. Looney, L. Baker and J. Wilson (skip) were successful in winning the trophy. In the section play they won every game by good margins and in the final against Amesley (Avon) the score was 11—1 in favour of the Opunake team. We join club members in offering the rink our hearty congratulations. PROGRESSIVE PAIRS WEDNESDAY'S PLAY Sixteen members took part in the progressive pairs competition on Wedneday afternoon, the weather conditions and the green being absolutely perfect. The winners turned up in Messrs Gunson (leads) and Walker (skips). Details of the win and losses were as follows;
