OPUNAKE RACES

NOMINATIONS FRIDAY. Uu Friday next, nominations close for the annual meeting of the Opunake Pacing Club to be held at Pihama on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. From what can be learned, the entries in the eight events should be such as to give the club every confidence in carrying on, for quite a number of owners are eager to give their horses a try out at Opunake in view of the proximity of Stratford a few ■weeks later.

The ground is much softer this year than last, a factor which will be appreciated by trainers in Taranaki. Given good acceptances and a fine day, the local club will find their receipts well up, the introduction of the win and place fotalisator being a step in the right direction and one that will be appreciated by the public.
