SURF CLUB MATTERS
GENERAL MEETING, A general meeting of the Opunake Surf Club was held in Mr. Stephenson’s office after the swimming carnival had concluded. Mr. Stephenson presided over a fair attendance of members. It was decided that the team should leave on the Sunday morning for Wanganui t 0 take part in the Hnekshaw Searlc Shield competition which takes place on January 31st. On Sunday morning, at 10 p.m., all members arc to attend a working bee, to he held at the lake to repaii the present staging for the annual swimming carnival. The following executive committee was elected:—
Judges: Messrs G. G. (Houston, I. M. Guild, W. H. Haggett; handicappers, W. E. Smith and J. N. Stephcusun; starter, Mr. N. Reardon; announcer, Mr J. N. Stephenson; call stewards, men—W. E. Smith and M. Hickey; ladies—Miss M. Byars and X. Smith. It was deciled to invite the East End ladies’ team to Opunake on the day of the Tabor Shield contest, in order that they may take part in a competition with the local ladies’ team. The secretary and treasurer were to procure a suitable men’s competition cap. The captain, vice-captain and president were elected a selection committee to select the competition team. Accounts to the amount of £1 6s 6d were passed for payment. Messrs L. Brown, J. (Houston and S. M. Smith were appointed a committee to make arrangements for the annual ball. A hearty vote of congratulation was passed to Mr. B. S. Dudley on his winning the Hurst Cup.
