"Presence Of Mind."
The weight of responsibility to be shouldered by our kxal politicians now-a-days is indicated by the following letters "received." by the Waitomo County Council last meeting, and published in the "King Country Chronicle ":- "I am writing these few lines to lay information against Waitomo car No.—owned by and driven by—came round the bend last Thursday and never soun-; *'' ed bis horn, and caused my son's horse to jump down a bank, & it fell over him, and —never came back to see if he was hurt, as it was, my son had the presence of mind to fall off the horse, and the 'horse rolled right over and over and nearly rolled on my son. I think this is getting very common round here, not blowin* their horns. This is the second accident—has had through /these drivers not sounding the alarm. --» got such a shaking ap this time through—car. They never- .came \ back to see if he was hurt, but left a 1 friend to do it, and he only got out and got in again. " Councillors, i,t is reported, were sufficiently ungracious to express amusement, and the* unseating of the son' might have been thtrliult of "horse" sense" rather than presence""' 'of' mind.
