Coursing.

A match for a stake of £2O a side took place on Mr Fleming's property at the Cape on Wednesday, in the presence of about 70 persons, the contestants being Mr W. Staite's Psyche and Mr D. Carroll's slut, resulting in a win for the former. The first run was a good one, and the slut was the fir-si to score, gettiug two points on accoa.it of Psyche running wide Psycha got the first turn (8 points), and then 6 forgo-bys, making nine ; he then turned the hare three time 3 (2 points eaoh turn), makiug his total 15. The slut turned three times off Psyche's turn (1 each turn), making her five points. By this time 800 yards had been covered. Near the hill the dog got three wrenches (1 each), bringing his total to 18. The slut then took command, the dog apparently having had enough, and scored nine points in succession, and eveutually killed the hare, nothing being allowed for the latter as the judges did not see it. The slut's score was 14 to the dog's 18. The distance travelled was about 1| miles. The second run was declared " no course." In the third and final go Psyche beat the slut on the run, gettiug the first wrench and kill. The hare in this run #as not fast. Psyche seemed in much better spirits than the slut, the latter not being anxious to get away. Messrs Jenkinson (New Plymouth) and H. Rodger (Hawera) were the judges, and Mr C. A. Trotter (Opunake) the slipper. 9 A run also took place between dogs swned by Mr J. Feaver and Mr Yandle, the latter winning by 6to 4. Mr Trotter was judge and Mr W. Humphries slipper. It is understood that a number of Hawera sports will join the Opunake Coursing Club if suitable grounds are obtained for the hares.
