A Serious Accident.

ONE PERSON KILLED AND SEVERAL INJURED.

Dunedin, October 27.

While the 9.80 Roslyn car was on its way to town this morning the gripper failed to catch the rope, and the efforts of the lineman were unavailing, owing to the greasy nature of the rail, consequent on the rain.

The car sped like lightning down the track.

There were nine passengers on board. A boy jumped off, and escaped with a slight bruise. When opposite the Catholic Cathedral, a Chinaman, who is believed to have jumped off, was thrown against an iron fence and killed. His name was Kin Key. A piece of bone seven inches long was knocked oat of his forehead. Opposite the Shamrock Hotel the ear turned over, the passengers being underneath. Three of the -.most severely injured were removed to the hospital. They are : Alexandria Matheson, who sustained injuries to her back, spine, and chest, and will probably recover; Kathleen Moore, her niece, who is unconscious, suffering from slight concussion of the brain ; and Lay Ling suffering from concussion of the brain, with a scalp wound. October 28. Miss Matheson and Miss Moore, who were injured in the Roslyn tramway accident, are making good progress under the circumstances,
