A Murderous Assault.

A MAN STRIKES HIS DAUGHTERS WITH A HAMMER. Auckland, October 19. Frederick Allen George Cotterell, a retired English solicitor, residing at Mount Albert, got out of bed this morning, entered the bedroom of his daughters (Beatrice, aged 16, and Florence, aged 14), and assailed'them, by striking them on the head with a stone hammer. The girls are unable, through injuries, to make a statement. It appears he bought a revolver a few days ago, but the family hid it away. He met Dr Walker a month ago, and said people were going to attack his house and family, and he would repel them. Dr Walker thinks he is suffering from mental delusions. Cotterell was arrested on a charge of assaulting his daughters with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
