Diseased Cattle.

Wellington, August 18. A deputation consisting of the Chairman of the Taranaki, Clifton, Stratford and Hawera County Councils waited on the Minister of Lands to-day and asked him to push through the House as speedily as possible a measure authorising the payment of compensation to owners of stock destroyed by order of inspectors. They also suggested that certain paddocks in the neighborhood of the principal sale yards should be gazetted as quarantine paddocks for lodging suspected cattle for inspection by the inspector. The Minister in replying stated that he had a bill prepared dealing with compensation for cattle destroyed by order of inspectors and he intended bringing it forward as early as possible. He promised to give the question of quarantine paddocks careful consideration.
