Rahotu Racing Club.
A very largely attended meeting was held on Saturday evening at the Rahotu Hotel for the purpose of considering the formation of a racing club. Mr A. O'Donnell was voted to the chair. The committee which had been appointed to inspect the course reported that one could be obtained on Mr W. C. Phillips' place which would only require an outlay of about £5.
After further discussion it was unanimously resolved that a race meeting be held at Rahotu on Mr W. C. Phillips' farm. Resolved, That Messrs J. Morrow, A. O'Donnell, and W. Mills be appointed delegates to wait on Pungarehu Racing Club next Saturday with a view to amalgamation. The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted as follows :—President, Mr W. C. Phillips ; Vice-President, Mr M. Fleming ; Judge, Mr G. W. Rogers; Clerk of the Scales, Mr W. D. Scott; Starter, Mr A. T. Wills ; Clerk of the Course, Mr J. Morrow ; Handicapper, Mr R. G. Paidy; Treasurer, Mr H. Langman ; Hon. Secretary, Mr W. Mills ; Stewards, Messrs J. Bleakley, A. Luxton, A. Phillips, A. O'Donnell, E. Dougherty, J. Morrow, G. Horo, J. Mitchell, H. Langman, A. T. Wills, G. Brown, R. Woods, J. Rothery, M. Eraser, A. Chapman, Rua Moetahuna, W. Jenkins. Resolved, That the races be held on March 17th, and that a meeting be held as soon as possible after interviewing Pungarehu Racing Club, to arrange a programme. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated a very enthusiastic meeting.
