Parihaka Road Board.

The ordinarily monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday, January 18th. Present .-—Messrs M. Fleming (chairman), F. H. Alexander, W. J. Dew, C. McHardy, and W. J. Wells. Minutes of previous ordinary meeting and of special meeting held on January 4th were confirmed. PUNIHO ROAD. John Carey wrote, asking the Board to do something to a couple of bad places on the road which made it impassable. The Clerk said it would want a Bft culvert, an 18in culvert and a small culvert besides half a chain of filling. Mr Wells said it was not much use making a road in the bush when the part of it in the open would be almost impasasble. The Chairman said his idea of road making in new districts was to first make the road wherever required so as to allow all the settlers to have access to their sections, and then start from the main road and make a good job as you go. Resolved, That Engineer be authorised to spend not more than £8 in making worst places passable. (Flem-ing-Dew.) KAHUI EAST ROAD. Mr Townsend waited on the Board re expenditure of deferred payment money on the Kahui East Road. The Clerk reported that the Land Board had not yet passed the schedule. Later in the day a telegram was received stating that the schedule totalling £264 for all roads had been passed. D.P. THIRDS. Resolved, That tenders be called for works scheduled in land fund on the following roads: —Stent Road, £lB 14s 6d; Newall Road, £7O lis 6d ; Bayly Road, £8 17s 4d; Burgess Road, £7 2s 2d ; Pungarehu Road, £l2 5s 4d ; Parihaka Road, £7 12s lOd ; Harvey Road, £9 7s 4d ; Kahui East Road, £22 lis 8d ; Upper Ngariki Road, £23 3s 5d ; Lower Ngariki Road, £9 0s lid; Parihaka East Road, £8 14s lOd ; Kahui West Road, £3 Is 4d. (Wells-Alexander.) MANIHI ROAD. T. McGloin waited on the Board asked that the engineer be instructed to inspect a couple of bad places on the Manihi Road. There was one place in particular of 8£ chains opposite his gateway which became quite impassable in winter. He asked that the work be done out of money accruing to the road. Resolved, That tenders be called for works asked for, the cost not to exceed £l4. (Wells-Alexander.) OPUA ROAD. Resolved, That tenders be called for two miles of metalling, and erecting bridge out of loan money ; tenders to close on Ist February. (Alex-ander-Dew.) KINA ROAD. Mr Alexander called attention to the urgent need of eight or ten chains of ditching, and a 12 or 18-inch box culvert on the Kina Road. Resolved, That the work be done, to be a charge on next year's special rate. (Alexander-Wells.) LOWER WAITEIKA ROAD. Mr McHardy drew attention to the urgent need of works on this road.— No funds, as the road was considerably in debt. , TIPOKA ROAD. Mr Dew called attention to the necessity for having a drain cleared out which was blocking the outlet from a culvert. Resolved, That the work be done. Mr Dew also drew attention to the necessity for having a ditch cleaned out on the Kahui Road, as the overflow was causing the metal on the road to be washed away. The Overseer to inspect. CATTLE ON ROADS. Resolved, That the Clerk be instructed to write to the ranger about complaints of cattle running on roads. ACCOUNTS. Loan Account—W. Humphries, £23 9s ; J. McDonald, £3O ; A.
