Wharf Company.

An informal meeting of directors was held on Thurday, Messrs Lambie (chairman), J. Stevenson, S. Forsyth, J. Macfie and W. Pettigrew being present.

Quotations were to hand for iron bark at 32s per 100, and also prices for kauri, muntz metal, copper and iron work.

Mr Goldie’s tender for supplying kauri was accepted. The price for iron bark was considered excessive, and from information received it was found that the use of iron bark for piles was getting into disfavor, as it was found that it was so susceptible to the ravages of the teredo. The best authorities were of opinion that it would be better to put in totara. It was therefore resolved that enquiries be made at Hokianga and other places as to the price of totara, and if suitable that it be ordered at once, and tenders then be called for the labor in connection with it.
