Town Board.

The adjourned meeting of the above was held on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs D. McGregor (chairman), Knowles, and O’Brien. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr O’Brien said before proceeding with the ordinary business he wished to refer to a recent occurrence. On Monday evening he intended moving the adjournment of the Board as a token of respect to their chairman, but a quorum was not present on that occasion. He would now move a vote of condolence as a mark of sympathy with the chairman and his family in their sad bereavement through the death of Mrs Bremner. Seconded by.Mr Knowles and carried. The Chairman thanked them for their expression .of sympathy. CORRESPONDENCE. From W. A. Collis, Secretary of the Scenery Preservation Society, submitting draft of a National Park Bill to conserve the Forest Reserve. Agreed with. From the Land and Income Tax Department, notifying that subsidy £ll 12s 4d on rates was now available. From K. Y. Breach, notifying his absence from the district, and that if he was not. back by August 10th to consider his letter as a resignation of his office as poundkeeper. Matter deferred till next meeting. From M. A. Seccotnbe, asking to have a culvert put across footpath in front of her premises to give an outlet to the water banked up on her premises, through the footpath having been raised. Resolved that permission be granted to her to put in a culvert. From Wm. Taylor, W. Pettigrew, and J. Guy, asking that a footpath be made on Napier Street between King Street and Gisborne terrace, and also a crossing at King Street. * Resolved, That request be complied with. (Knowles-O'Brien.) Prom Stratford County Council, enclosing accounts in connection with Licensing, showing a debit against the Board of £9 9s Bd.

From Minister of Justice, stating that the Magisterial arrangements on the coast would not permit of more frequent sittings of the S.M. Court than at present. From H. Ranby, calling attention to the wet state of Domett Street between Havelock and Allison Streets, and asking that a culvert be put in to give access from Domett to Allison Street. No funds.

From Town Clerk, Hawera, giving particulars of cost and lighting street lamps. Resolved, That three lamps be obtained at a cost not exceeding £3 each. One to be placed at Post Office, one at cross roads leading to hall, and one at the corner of Mr Ritson’s premises Layard Street. (Knowles-McGregor.) The Chairman said he put Mr J. Peacock on as ranger temporarily during Mr K. V. Breach’s absence. Action confirmed.

Resolved, That the County Council be written to re the state of the water tables in the town.
