ORDINARY MEETING. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Mesdamea W. Middleton, Stevenson, O'Brien, and Miss Tait formed a deputation and waited on the Board re the erection of a supper-room. Mrs Middleton said the Board were well aware of the great incovenienoe which was caused through the want of a supper-room. When a ball took place they had from 200 to 250 people in the hall, and could only set a table to accomodate about 20. A plan was -produced for a room to be built along the eastern side of the hail, 70 feet long and 14 feet wide, which would enable provision to be made for 90 people, and it was estimated to cost about £7O. If the Board. had kindly set aside £25 towards the cost and if they would build it in time for the Jetty Ball on 24th July the ladies would pledge themselves to get up entertainments to recoup the Board the outlay. Resolved, That a supper room -as proposed be built. (McGregor— O'Brien.
COKKESPONDENCE. From Taranaki County Council, re Main Road, declining conditions submitted by tbe Board. Mr Stewart said it was evident they could not dictate terms and the next best thing was to find what the council's terms were.
Mr O'Brien thought if the terms in the Counties Act as proposed at the Council were satisfactory they should accept them. Mr Enowles said he thought tbe best thing to do was to write to tbe Council and ask them to state their terms. There were holes in the road now which were really dangerous and unless something was done at once an accident would likely'happen. The Chairman said the Council had evidently been frightened by tbe conditions forwarded although there was really nothing in them, but they apparently thought the Board was trying to have them. Mr Stewart said the Board was now getting the blame of preventing the Council doing anything to it. Resolved, That the Council be written to asking on what terms tbey would be agreeable to hand it over. (Ste wart-Knowles).
From James Ritson and others, calling attention to the state of the footpath and road in front of Block 34. Resolved, That the members of the Board inspect on Wednesday. (Stewart-O'Brien.) Resolved, That the clerk get the ball windows frosted. (McGregorO'Beien.) Mr O'Brien called attention to the encroachment of tbe Waiau River at end of King Street. The last fresh had taken away another large slice of land, and unless something were done great damage would ensue. Resolved, That the attention of the Land Board be called to the matter.
The following accounts were passed for- payment: W. Phillips, lis; D. Mather, 4s; D. McSweeney, £4 4s ; Dudley and Mitchell, £6 6s 6d; H. Caplen, £8 Bs. DOMAIK BOARD. Same members. Mr J. Stewart chairman. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. COKEESPONDENCE. From Messrs Eutherford and Son, in reply to a letter asking by what authority they occupied part of the recreation reserve for flax bleaching, stating that they had permission from Mr Twomey and consequently were not aware they were trespassing, but if necessary they were willing to pay
for the use of any of the Board's property they might occupy. Mr O'Brien asked bad the matter been before the Board. The Chairman : No.
Mr O'Brien tben asked on what authority the letter had been sent, as it was not on the authority of the Board. The Chairman said his attention had been called to the matter and he considered it was his duty to make the enquiry so as to be able to place the "matter before the Board and he had instructed the clerk accordingly. Mr McGregor said be thought the chairman did quite right as it was not necessary for every little thing requiring attention to be first brought before the Board.
The Chnirman said Mr Twomey had fences where they had no right to be and that he should be called on to remove them. At present the cresent was fenced in and people could not get along there. The Clerk stated that it was understood the lessee would get the fright to fence in the cresent on applying to the Board.
Mr McGregor /said the cresent should be available to the public but that the right to erect a gate might be given. He thought the agreement should be carried out and not show favor to any one. Besolved, That notice be given to Mr Twomey to remove fences not on proper lines. (McGregor-Stewart.)
