Fire at Wanganui.

Wanganui, May 6. A fire broke out this morning in premises of Cummins, Sharp and Co., grocers, in the store room. The fire had a good hold when the alarm was given, and spvead rapidly to the adjoining office of Burnett, solicitor, and the shop of Cumberland, cabinetmaker.

Cummins' was completely destroyed, and the other two places gutted. Insurances Cummins' building, £SOO, Sun ; stock, £750, Liverpool, London, and Globe, £250 South British, £250 Northern. Burnett, office, £250, Norwich Union ; furniture and books, £l5O, Victoria. Cumberland, shop, £250, Imperial. The latter's stock was uninsured. Most of it was removed, but the loss sustained was £2OO. Cummins was a heavy loser of £I2OO. It was lucky there was no wind, or the consequences would have been most serious. Burnett had a narrow escape, and also Mrs Harris, who was sleeping on premises.
