The Weather.
Yesterday afternoon there was a regular deluge of rain accompanied by a high wind. It seems to have been severely felt down the Plains, where the approach to the Kaupokonui bridge was swept away, blocking traffic. The coach could not get along last night, so tbe mails had to be brought on horseback and arrived here close on time, being only 15 minutes behind. A slip also occurred on the hill at the Manaia side of the Otakeho bridge, carrying away the double telegraph pole there which carries the river span of telegraph wires, thus interrupting telegraphic communication. It is to be hoped that no further serious damage to roads or bridges has occurred, a 3 the district is not in a position to stand a heavy strain at'present.
