Creditors’ Meeting.
The first meeting of creditors in the estate of James Naismith, blacksmith, of Kaponga, was held on Tuesday before the D.0.A., Mr C. A. Budge. The creditors present were Messrs S. Calvert, Canning and Whittington, whilst Mr Caplen appeared for Messrs Wilkins and Field, and Mr Welsh for Messrs Saini, Harwood, R. Canning, and Tindle, The D.O.A. mentioned that the full statement of liabilities had only reached him that morning, and therefore due notice had not been given to creditors to prove. The debtor had not been able to meet his engagements through sickness, but roughly speaking the preliminary statement showed a deficiency of £9l 12s lid. He (the D.0.A.) suggested adjourning until a convenient date could be fixed for another meeting. This was agreed to. The following is the list of liabilito unsecured creditors :—Wilkins and Field, £33 10s 6d ; Briscoe, McNeil and Co., £9 lls sd; E. W. Mills and Co., £5 10s 8d; A. Haughey, £1 18s 2d ; W. Alexander, £l6 lls ; Thain and Co., £55 ; H. I. Jones and Sons, £7 10s ; F. S. Canning, £22 6s ; A. G Bennett, £l6 lls 2d ; W. Hannah, £2B 7s ;R. Canning, £7; T. Whittington, £lB ; Calvert and Sons. £3 ; Innes and Co., £4 ; Stewart and Co., £2 17s ; and Farquhar and Lowe, £6. Total, £237 12s lid. The assets are returned at £146, made up of book debts £135, and cash in hand £ll. Deficiency, £9l 12s lid. A further statement has since been made bringing the total liabilities to £263 Os 6d.—Star.
