Licensing Matters.
Christchurch, March 3.
At a meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee Inspector Broham made formal application to have the license of the Central Hotel cancelled, on the ground that there had been six endorsements within the last six months. The licensee was not present, and the committee decided to adjourn for a fortnight, and in the meantime to serve notice on the licensee to show cause why the forfeiture applied for should not be made. Napier, March 2. Great interest was taken in the application to the Licensing Committee for the transfer of the license of the Green Meadows Hotel, Taradale, to a large building it was proposed to erect on the Marine Parade. The temperrnce people manifested great opposition, and were represented by Mr Cornford, counsel, who raised a technical objection that a certificate of twelve householders was needed, as in applications for a new license. The Bench upheld this objection, dismissing the application. The Supreme Court is to be asked to grant a mandamus to compel the committee to release the application.
