The Shrew and Stepfeldt led for the first half mile, when Bessie McCarthy and Pompom closed on them. Along the back of the course Stepfeldt and The Shrew gave place to Skirmisher and Bessie McCarthy, the latter being in front by the road, but at the entrance to the straight Brooklet came with a rattle, and with Skirmisher led. Saracen and Spindrift then put in their claims, and though the former cut down the others he could not reach Brooklet, who won by a length and a half, Spindrift a fair third.
