An extraordinary romance of crime Las just come to light in New York. A man named William Barrett was arrested some time ago in Massachusetts for attempted robbery and murder. It now appears, writes the New York correspondent of the Daily Chronicle on 15th November, that Barrett is the husband of a lady living in luxury near Fifth-avenue, who had never suspected that for years she had been associated with a desperate habitual burglar. Several hundred thousand dollars worth of property secreted by Barrett has been dug up in various places and more discoveries are expected. Barrett was well known at Boston, wh*re he passed for a prosperous man of business.

A horse kicked H. S. Shafer, of the Freeniyer House, Middleburg, N.Y., on the knee, which laid him up in bed and caused the knee joint to become stiff.
