Sir George Grey.
Sir George Grey, writing to the Speaker of the House of Representatives from London, November 18, acknowledges receipt of the resolution passed by the House on his retirement from the Auckland seat. Sir George goes on to say : —lt is impossible for me to express in adequate language my feelings upon receiving such a record of lifelong services without feeling deeply moved. The results named as having been obtained by my services are records of what has been achieved by men and officers serving the British Empire for long periods of time in a manner which reflects the highest honor upon them. I believe that history will record the vast difficulties which have been overcome by those who in a civil or militarj capacity, met them as they arose. It is with great pain that I now separate myself from those to whom I owe so much. Age and infirmity compel me to do so, but I return most grateful thanks to the Parliament of New Zealand for the invaluable assistance which it has extended to me through so many years and for the parting compliment which it has paid to me."
