♦ CANTERBURY Y. N.S.W. Christcuurch, December 10. The Sydney team finished their firsl innings at 3 o’clock, with a total of 194, the following being the chief scorers :—Poidevin, 64 ; Burton, 80 ; Noonan (not out), 28; Shea, 18; Pryor, 13 ; Ridge, 11; Furness, 10. D. Reese took 5 wickets, Wilding 2, Pearce 2, and Collins 1. Canterbury went to the wickets again and at the close of the day’s play had put up 151 runs for the loss of two wickets. Cuff, 75 ; H. C. Ridley (not out), 88; De Maus, (not out), 22 ; Lawrence, 6 ; extras, 10. The third days match was continued on Tuesday in hot weather, with the accompaniment of a northwest wind, which rose clouds of dust at intervals. The bad score made by Canterbury on the first day seems to have lost them the match, as the visitors, playing up well, had the advantage at the close of the day, and should win comfortably. The home team raised its total to 298, De Maus playing a brilliant innings of 68, and Pearce contributed 40 in fine, free style. Noonan’s bowling was very deadly, taking seven wickets for 95 runs. This left the visitors, at 3-30, 229 to get to win, and, at the drawing of the stumps, they had scored 148 for the loss of two wickets. Walford played a fine, aggressive innings for 82 (not out), and Cobcroft scored 81 very neatly, Poidevin is not out for 15, and Pryor made 11. New South 'Wales won by six wickets.
