Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. Cattle—At Stratford, on Tuesday, there was a very full entry of stock. Bidding was fairly active for most classes, there being more demand and slightly better prices than at the previous sale, nearly everything being sold. Very little dairy stock was offered and of indifferent quality. I quote—Calves, Ids to 21s ; yearlings, 25s to 32s Gd ; 15 to 18 month steers, 35s to Ids ; 2 to 21-year do, £2 17s to £3 ; 3-year do, £3 10s; 18-month empty heifers, £2 3s Gd to £2 5s Gd ; springers, £3 to £3 12s Gel ; store cows, £1 17s to £3 ; cows and calves, £3 ds to £3 ss; springers, £3 10s to

£4 15s; owes and hunts, 10s., There was an excellent sale at Mr C. 0. Hawke’s place near Cardiff on Wednesday. Cows sold very well indeed. Sundries w T ere also sold at good prices. Cows in milk made up to £G Is 6d; backward, to £5 ; heifers, to £5 17s 6d ; 2-year hacks, to. £7 ; express, £24 ; pigs £1 £1 Is. The yards were filled at Waiwakaiho on Thursday principally with young cattle and steers ; the female classes not being in strong force. There was no apparent change in young cattle, but steers sold readily at the hammer at an advance of 6s to 10s. I quote —Calves, 16s 6d to 24s ; yearlings 26s to 80s; empty heifers, £2 4s Gd to £2 Gs 6d ; 18-month to 2year steers, £2 9s Gd to £3 2s Gd; 2 to 24-year do, to £3 13s ; 3-year do, £4 ; dairy heifers to £4 12s Gd. I would advise farmers who wish to sell big steers to bring them forward for next sale, as several buyers are iu the field. Store cows, if young, are also in demand. Egmont Farmers’ Union (Limited) Report. There was a fair entry of young cattle at Stratford, all of which sold well, though large steers were a bit dragging. Dairy cattle were not in such good demand, though we quitted nearly every one entered. We quote —Dairy cows and heifers, £3 15s to £5 10s ; 12 to 15-mouth mixed, £1 18s to £2 8s ; yearlings, mixed, £1 9s to £1 13s; store cows, 51s to 62s Gd. Our annual sale of show stock, etc., was held in tho horse bazaar, Uuion street, on Friday, the Bth inst., the day after the Egmont A. and P. Show. The entries w r ero quite as numerous as on previous occasions, and the attendance was rather better. The chief business done was in Mr Jollie’s purebred Jerseys and some of Mr A. A. Fantham’s yearling Shorthorns. We quote—Jersey cows, £5 10s to £lO 15s; do heifers, £4 to £6; Shorthorn bulls, 20 guineas and 25 guineas. We held our fortnightly sale iu the Glover road yards, Hawera, on Wednesday, the 13th inst. Quite as many cattle came forward as were advertised, the majority of which were of good quality. A very large number of buyers were present, and bidding was brisk throughout for all classes of stock, so that with the exception of two pens of cattle everything changed hands before leaving the yards at prices slightly in favor of vendors. We quote—Fat bullocks (heavy weights), £6 3s to £G 18s; do light weights), £5 15s to £6 Is ; fat cows, £4 to £5 2s Gd ; forward steers, £4 17s Gd to £5 7s Gd ; 2£ to 3-year steers, £2 os to £3 9s; yearlings, mixed, £1 18s to £1 19s Gd; store cows, £2 15s to £3 14s ; 18-month heifers, £2 to £2 8s ; bulls, £1 to £5. Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co.’s Stock Report. At Opunake, on 12tb inst, there was not a large muster of cattle, hut good enquiry for young sorts, all of which sold readily. At Mauaia, on the 14th inst., we had only a small entry, most of which were disposed of. We quote — At Opunake—Weaners to yearlings, 24s to 31s 6d ; yearlings to 16-months, 39s to £2 ss; 2to 2|-year steers, £3 to £3 10s ; store cows, £2 9s to £2 19s ; springers, £4 8s to £4 11s ; 2iyear quiet heifers, £2 15s. At Manaia—Yearlings, 39s to £2 ; weaners, 28s to 80s Gd ; 2-year heifers, £2 Is to £2 7s Gd; quiet heifers, £2 10s ; fat cows, £4 8s , store cows, £2 IBs ; springers, £4 10s to £5 ; hoggets, 9s to 9s 7d. Messrs F. R. Jackson, and Co.’s Stock Report. We have no alteration in values of stock to report. At Waverley a fair entry came forward. At St. Hill Street yards cattle were in usual numbers, but only a limited number of sheep were penned. Pigs sold at last sale’s rates we quote— Cattle.—At Waverley-r-Fat cows, £4 5s ; steers, £3 to £3 3s ; 2-year steers, £2 ss; cows, £2 10s; yearlings, 80s to 355. At Wanganui-Grown bullocks, £4 10s ; others, £2 17s to £3 10s; fat cows, £4 10s ; milch cows, £4 10s to £5 ss; heifers, £2 7s Gd ; yearlings, 28s to 35s 6d. Sheep.—At Waverley—Fat ewes, 8s lOd ; hoggets, 7s Gd to 10s Bd. At Wanganui—Fat wethers, in wool, 14s Gd ; shorn fat ewes, 6s Bd. Pigs.—Large pork, 20s to 24s ; porkers, 13s Gd to 17s Gd ; small pigs, 7s to 9s. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report. Horses-—An increased number were brought forward. Prices for heavy draught were slightly in favor of the purchaser, but other classes were without alteration in value. The entries for disposal by auction at the Durham yards on Friday were numerous. There was a steady demand throughout, and nearly all the lots were cleared. We quote : Heavy draughts, from £l2 to £lB 10s ; medium, £9 10s to £l4 10s; light harness, £5 to £9 10s; hacks, £3 10s fo £23 10s. Cattle have been in sufficient supply for requirements. Fat stock advanced slightly in value; other classes without noteworthy alteration. There was a good muster of fat beasts at the Newmarket yards on Tuesday. Dairy and storo were fairly represented. The Pukekohe yards were well filled on Wednesday, and notwithstandidg tho ■ attraction of the Eilorslic race meeting, there was a large meeting, and Newmarket rates were obtained. | Ok beef ranged from 21s to 23s per I 1001 b ; cow, 21s. Sheep were iess numerous than on the previous week, but did nob advance in value. Wethers sold at from 12s to 15s 2d; shorn wethers, 8s 3d to 12s 3d ; shorn ewes, 7s 9d to 13s Gd each ; lambs, Gs Gd to 10s. Pigs, again yarded in very limited numbers, sold at prices ranging from IBs to £1 7s each.
