PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
(to the editor.) Sib,— Mr Bleakly asked the Board at their last meeting to repair a portion of the Manihi Road, stating that there was a gravel pit on Morrow's land, but if the gravel was taken from such pit it would have to be carted over a piece of good road. There is also a gravel pit on Dunton's land, which, if got from it, would have to be carted over a newly-metalled length at that end. These pits are at each end, while the repairs to be done are in the centre. The Board resolved, That 50 yards of clear-river shingle should be taken from the Okahu River, opposite the work to be done. Not one load would have to be carted over the good road to make it bad. A committee was appointed. Tenders were sent in for such, the lowest being 3s per yard. The committee ignores their authority, and accept a tender to have stuff from Dunton's pit (not clean shingle), which has to be carted over the very best piece of metalled road on Manihi Road, with a 2|-inch tyre. It was cheaper to have paid 5s per yard for the shingle than Is for Dunton's fine stuff. What is the use of a resolution or tendering when the committee are the ruling power ?—I am, &c, Disgusted..
