Harbor Board Matters.
Mr E. Maxwell, the chairman of the Harbor Board, who has been on a visit South, returned by the Takapuna on Saturday morning. The Board empowered Mr Maxwell to visit Wellington, and then proceed South for the purpose of seeing if the Timaru dredge could be obtained for work at 4 the breakwater. At Wellington Mr Maxwell saw the Premier, and also Mr E. M. Smith, member for the district, in connection with harbor matters. Aa already stated the Timaru Harbor Board, on the casting vote of the chairman, refused to lease their dredge to the New Plymouth Board, but not. withstanding Mr Maxwell has still some hope that the services of this powerful and up-to-date dredge will be obtained for dredging at the harbor here. Mr Maxwell states that the Oamaru dredge Progress, which did such good work here some time back could be leased on much the same terms as the last. He did not visit Dunedin, as there was really nothing to be gained for the mission he was on by going there. The Timaru dredge has a capacity of 400 tons, and can load herself in 20 minutes. —Herald.
