A youth named Alfred Neilson, 16 years of age, residing near Stanway, was out shooting with hi 3 younger brother on Sunday, and was accidentally shot through the heart, and died instantly.—Advocate. A wash made of the water in which potatoes have been boiled is a certain means of destroying insects on animals. The first application is generally effectual, but it had better be repeated a few times in order to destroy the eggs. The same means may be used against the parasites in which mange originates, and probably would remove plant lice also. This insecticidal property of the potato is supposed to be owin;; to the solanine, which is one of its constituents. A meeting of members of the House was held on Tuesday morning, and one or two recruits were gathered in to swell the following of the Hon Major Steward with his elective evecutive proposals. The Bill of last session and the proposal generally was discussed very fully, and a number of amendments suggested and agreed to. One of the most important of these provides that the House in electing Ministers shall not have recourse to the ballot, so that the vote of every member will be known. This amendment has been made in deference to the wishes of a number of the political associations throughout the colony. The Hon Major Steward and Messrs Hall-Jones and McNab were appointed a committee to go farther into the matter.—N.Z. Times.
