Opunake Parliamentary Union.
+.— —— A meeting of those interested in establishing a Parliamentary Union or Debating Society was held iu the ; school - room on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs Brennan (chairman), | Stewart, Raikes, White, O'Brien, Robinson, O'Neil, Armstrong, Guy, H. H. Seccombe, R. Brennan, and Bailey. The Chairman explained the object for which the meeting had been called, and pointed out the benefits which would accrue from training people taking part in public affairs to conduct public business with due decorum. There was very little difference between a Debating Society and a Parliamentary Union, as in the latter case the debating matter was provided by way of Bills, instead of setting subjects as was done by meaus of Debating Societies. Mr Robinson moved, seconded by Mr Stewart, That a society be formed, to be called the Opunake ParliamenUnion.—Carried., Resolved, That the subscription be 4s per member for the season. [O'Brien-Armstrong.] Resolved, That meetings, be held fortnightly, on Wednesday evening, in the school-room. [Stewart-O'Brien.] Resolved, That the number of Ministers be four, and that Mr Brennan be entrusted with the formation of a Ministry.
