The mail train on the Bengal and Nagpore Railway recently ran into a wild elephant which was straying along the line near Guilkhers Station. The engine, having carried the animal about 100 yards then left the rails with the first five carriages. The elephant was thrown down a bank 60ft high, and was found dead at the bottom. No one in the train was injured and no damage was done to the rolling stock or to the line.
