Opunake School Committee.

A meeting of the above School Committee was held i?n Wednesday evening. Present—Melwa-Eaikes (chairman), D. McGregor, Guy, andO’Jßrien. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Inspector's examination report was read, and considering the irregular attendance during the past year, was deemed satisfactory. A list of children who were irregular in attendance was then considered, and it was resolved to take action under the compulsory clauses of the Act to compel their attendance. It was resolved to hold the usual annual picnic as soon as convenient after the re-opening of the school. It was decided to try and arrange for a site nearer town to hold the picnic, the Government paddock being suggested. It was decided to appeal to the parents as usual for supplies. The report of the Sewing Committee was received, which stated that no sewing had being sent in from the Opunake School, an explanation of which was to be asked from the head teacher.

Capitation for June quarter was £5 5s 6d, and for September quarter £6 12s 6d.

Miss Heywood and Mr Bauchope were nominated by the Committee to fill the vacancies on the Board. Accounts, amounting to £2, were passed for payment.
