PUNIHO.

(Our Own Correspondent.) Christmas has come and gone, and seeing it through decently was the cause of not sending my usual notes. There was, however, very little startling news about, as a good number had cleared away to other centres to spend their holidays, and consequently our part was quiet. We shall change that now for we shall be having the Warea picnic on hand shortly and that is sure to draw a crowd from all parts, as our neighbours, on all sides, know that when it comes to giving a good sociable day’s* outing, Warea takes the cake. Then we shall have the Pungarehu race meeting, which is one of the best country meetings held round the mountain. The committee and the energetic secretary, Mr H. Corbett, are “ wiring in ” so as to make the meeting a greater success, if possible, than last year, and visitors may rely on getting good sport for their money. Pungarehu, as a “ tot ” meeting, is to be rubbed out, but if permission can be obtained, wo intend holding our annual meeting as usual, as what we go for is sport. New Year’s Day saw a break in the weather, which was very welcome to dairymen, but not so to those who have any harvesting on hand. Cant. Edwin, or whoever is proprietor of the weather shop, evidently does not rely on farming for his income, or' we might have a different arrangement of the weather chart.
