THE ENGLISHMEN IN AUSTRALIA. The second test match between Stoddart’s English Eleven and combined Australia was begun on Saturday last at Melbourne. The visitors batted first, owing to the heavy rain which fell on the previous day, the wicket was all in favour of the bowlers, and the innings closed for 75 —the smallest vet made in the tour. The Australians did not fare much better, the last wicket falling when the score was at 123. The Englishmen then went in for the second time, and made a big stand, compiling 475 before being all disposed of, out of which number Stoddart made 173. This left the home team to get 428 to win, and although they are making a good fight of it, having made 828 for the loss of nine wickets, the result is an almost sure win for the Englishmen.
