KAPONGA.

(Ouk Own Cokkesi>ondent.)

The late long spell of dry weather has almost dried us up, but, thanks to Captain Edwin and Jupiter Pluvius, relief has come, and we are able to make another appea'anee. Milking is in full swing just now, but the Babcock tester does not seem to find favour with the majority of dairymen, as the staudard has been decreasing daring the dry weather. The temperance party are organising a monster concert for November stb, when one of the best programmes ever presented to the public will be ,put on that evening, and cannot fail to give satisfaction. This will be followed by the usual Wesleyan picnic, which has always proved .such a success in previous years, and will no doubt do so this year, on account of the additional attraction of a Christmas tree, which will be loaded with prizes for young and old.

Mr G. Kelland is erecting a building just opposite the Commercial Hotel, which he intends opening as a boarding-house and stationer's shop. On sale days especially the demand for dining accommodation has so largely increased that Mr Kelland has ventured on this undertaking, and it is to be hoped that his venture will meet with success.

Since last •'writing we have had an addition to our business meu. Another son of Vulcan has started, and seems to be kept busy. An athletic gathering is to be held here on New Year's Da}', when a large programme will be submitted to the public. Mr, F. S. Canning has been elected president of the club, which is a sure sign of success, as he entera into affairs of interest to the district with groat vigor.
