ELTHAM ROAD WEST.

(Our Own Correspondent.)

The statutory meeting to consider the proposed loan for the Kiri Road was held at Mr P. Tindle's house on Tuesday week. There was a good muster of the settlers interested. Mr G. Tindle, clerk to the Waimate Road Board, occupied the chair. Mr Noonan objected to having both his sections Jjncluded in proposed loan area, as one «lras already liable to special rate for the Eltbam Road loan. He was informed that he should have objected at an earlier stage, as it was now too late to make any alteration. It was decided to borrow £IOOO to form grade and metal the road to the block line, about«B£ miles. The Awatuna Co-operative Cheese Factory is completed, and starts operations "this week. The factory is a large and commodious building, fitted with the most modern appliances for cheese making, and is a vevj» creditable testimony to the enterprise of the settlers interested. I hope it will prove a success financially, and there is little doubt of this, as the Company have secured the services of a very capable manager in Mr Cox, and the latter having secured a wife (another Canterbury lady—looks-bad this for the local ladies), everything should go oh swimmingly. We have been having glorious weather in Jhe bush lately, quite a novelty for Taranaki. The bush roads are now in firstrate order again, and settlers who were contemplating having to use a sledge and bullocks to get their milk to the factories, can now comfortably ride along in their carriages, and no danger of getting bogged either.
