A Sydney paper has the following:— Apropos of the unlucky number 13. Fitzgerald Brothers had their circus-waggons numbered while in Sydney last year. After starting out the axle of No 13 waggon broke and threw the driver into a creek, breaking his arm. His successor was run in for bigamy in the nent town. Humphries, the lion-«nragev, assumed temporary command of the unlucky waggon, and was horribly bitten by the lions the third day after. He was followed as driver by Frank Jones, the clown, who got a telegram next day apprising him of the fact that his wife had triplets. At this fresh calamity the firm gave in, and had the figure 3 painted out, since which everything has gone all right. Twenty seceders from the Women’s Political League held a meeting in Auckland at which 60 were present. It was agreed to form an Auckland Women’s Political Pveform League, the objects being education and consolidation of the female vote in the common interest of labor, temperance, and moral reform, and to inoculate the doctrine that moral and industrial wealth, is the true standard of individual and national greatness, to secure workers of both sexes to equal wage for equal service, to secure the right of the majority of electors to record their vote, to control the sale of alcoholic liquors, to maintain and improve the system of free compulsory education, to secure justice for women by equal laws, one moral statutory code for both sexes. Mrs Kerr was elected president.
