A Tragedy in Victoria.
Melboubne, August 28. A terrible tragedy is reported to have occured about three miles from Syriughurst railway station, where a selector named George Dobson murdered three of his children, also a neighbor named Peter Dinsdale, and then committed suicide by cutting his throat. Dobson had been in a very despondent mood for some days, owing to monetary troubles, and was continually stating to his wife that he had only a few days to live. On Sunday Mrs Dobson determined to obtain help, and left home for that purpose, taking two of the youngest children with her,. A friend of hers, named Yonarx, rode over to the residence next morning, when he discovered the bodies, and communicated with the police. A thorough search by the latter revealed the bodies of the children, face downwards, with their throats cut. Dinsdale.had apparently been shot behind the ear while reading. Continuing the search the police found a butcher’s knife smeared with blood near an underground tank, and on looking into it Dobson’s body was observed with the head almost severed from the trunk.
