NEW SOUTH WALES v. NORTH ISLAND. Auckland, August 29. The football match, North Island v. New South Wales, was played to-day at Potter’s Paddock. There were 8000 present. Mr Arneil acted as referee. A. Bayly captained the North Island team, and Surman the New South Wales team. The game resulted : North Island, 15; New South Wales, 3. Tries were obtained for the North Island by Bayly (2) and Roberts. Murphy kicked two goals from penalty kicks, one being from ten yards past mid-field. For New South Wales, Lane, from a scrum, scored. The game throughout was a rough one. Roberts, the Wellington three-quar-ter, had his collar-bone broken ; Dibbs, of New South Wales, retired badly shaken, and several others were slightly injured.
