- —— — - Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. New Plymouth, August 17. Cattle.—On Tuesday I held a clearing sale at Midhurst of Mr Griffith Jone’s dairy stock. Owing to the heavy rain there was only a moderate attendance, but the cows, which were a good average lot, were well competed for, and realised satisfactory prices. springers, £4 to £5 15s; stores, £3‘, springing heifers, £4 15s. At Eltham, ou Wednesday, the sale v of Mr Chong’s herd of milkers attracted a good number of buyers. Springers made up to £7 12s 6d ; cows in milk and late calvers, £8 to £6 15s; according to age and quality, Jersey bulls, 22s 6d to 80s; calves, 17s to 265; draught horse, £ls. At Stoney Rive”, on Wednesday, owing to the rough weather in the morning all stock entered did not come forward, and there was consequently rather a small number. There was a good attendance, and* only two or three pens went home unsold. Calves to yearlings made 35s to 475; 12 to 15 months mixed, £2 10s ; good 18 months steers, £2 14s ; springing heifers, £4 10s to £4 17s 6d; cows, £4 to £5 ss; 1 pair working steers, £ll 10s; 1 pair working bullocks, £l2. There was keen enquiry for young cattle and choice springers, all of which sold freely ; other classes were not asked for. At Hawera, on 16th, we had a good entry, and fair competition, resulting in most lines being sold at the hammer or immediately afterwards. We quote—At Eltham—Calves, 16s to 20s ; weaners, 34s to 40s ; yearlings, £2 to £2 6s ; 2-year heifers, £2 14s to £8 ; 24-year forward heifers, £3 5s to £3 15s ; 3-year springers, £4 10s to £5 15s ; cows and calves, £4 6s ; 2-year steers £3 2s to £3 ss. At Hawera—Weaners, 33s to 88s ; yearling, mixed sexes, 89s to 44s ; 2year steers, £3 5s to £3 8s 6d; steers, £3 14s to £3 17s 6d ; 8-year bullocks, £4 10s to £4 15s ; fat cows, £4 10s ; 2|-year heifers, £3 12s 6d to £4 ; springers, £5 to £6los; store cows, £8 to £3 5s ; cows, at calving, £3 11s to £3 15s; cows and calves, £4 ss. Sheep.—Hoggets, 6s Id to 8s 3d ; store ewes, 4s 6d ; aged ewes, in lamb, 9s. Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.’s Stock Report. JOHNSONVILLE, August 16. At our sale to-day the bullocks entered were, with the exception of a few pens, only of middling and inferior quality. Prices ruled on a par with those of last sale. Some good wethers were present. The rest of the sheep were lightweights, but in fair condition. Pigs sold in favor of vendors. We quote— Best bullocks, £8 to £9 ; others, £7 to £7 10s ; light inferior bullocks, £6 12s 6d to £7; cows, £6 15s. Sheep.— Wethers, 17s to 17s Id ; mixed sheep, 18s 6d; light ewes, 10s to 10s 6d. Pigs.—Baconers, 65s ; porkers, 20s to 25s ; small pigs, 6s 9d to 12s 6d.
