Taranaki Education Board.
The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: Miss Heywood, Messrs Bauchope (Chairman), Fanil, Adlamf Hill, Mackay, Ambury, Allsworth, and Wade. ARCHITECT'S REPORT. The architect reported on works at Pungarehu, Okato, Tataraimaka, Mongorei, and Harford Road.—The architect was instructed to attend to repairs of an out-office at Okato, the spouting at Tataraimaka residence, and repairs to an out-office at Mongorei. SALVATION ARMY. Captain Andrews, of the Salvation Army," wrote asking for use of the school-room at Eltham Road.—The Board decided to refer him to the School Committee, who bad charge of the building for the time being. OPUNAKE. Messrs W. D. Scott and H. J, Newman wrote declining to be appointed Commissioners, and Mr E. C. Raikes wrote accepting position. Mr 'A. O’Brien, Secretary to the Commissioners, wrote stating that the body was in favor of the Town Committee’s iew that the committees should have power in fixing holidays. ROWAN ROAD. The committee wrote asking for assistance in various matters.—The let- ' >r was referred to Mr Allsworth to .-.sport on at next meeting. HOLIDAY QUESTION. Mr W. A. Collis, Chairman of the ''own Committee, waited on the Board !■» urge that committees should be some power in fixing holidays. —A number of opinions from enmmitr es which were called forth by the T >WQ Committee’s circular, were ree ived and read.—The question was . jferred. INFORMATION REQUIRED. Mr Dempsey, headmaster at the < jntral School, wrote, asking (1) if [ -ties include attendance of pupil i
teachers for instruction out of school hours ? and (2), has the return to duty of a teacher, who has been absent less than three days, to be reported to the Secretary /of the Board ? —The Board decided to inform him that duties in regulation 19, include attendance of pupil teachers for instruction as specified in regulation 41, and that the return to duty by a teacher who has been absent for less than three days be reported to the Secretary of the Borrd by the head teacher, as required by regulation 25. NOTICE OF MOTION, Mr Faull gave notice to move, That the Board finding, after trial, that it cannot continue the 10 per cent lately added to the capitation of School Committees, will, after the close of the present quarter on September 30, pay capitation on the original scale. APPOINTMENT QUESTION. The Board decided to forward the following names to the Opunake Committee to select an assistant teacher : Misses Reid and Lorimer. SCHOOL DISTRICTS, It was decided to reconstruct the Cardiff, Ngaire, and Rowan school districts in order to form a new district, to be called the Palmer Road district. TRAVELLING EXPENSES. Mr Mackay gave notice of motion, that in future members’ travelling expenses be paid at the rate of sixpence (6d) per mile per meeting with a minimum of ten shillings (10s), and a maximum of one pound (£1). ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £3 7s 6d were passed for payment. The Board adjourned.—Herald.
