Church of England Social.

Bad weather again spoiled the attendance at the above social, which was held yesterday evening in the Town Hall. The following programme was gone through, and done full justice to by the performers Overture, “ Sultan’s Grand March,” Opunake Siring Band; Duet, “Minute Gun at Sea,” Messrs Lloyd and Carter; chorus, “ Lordly Gallants ” ; song, “Strangers Yet,” Miss Tait; song, “ If I were a Knight of the Old Time,” Mr Raikes; duet, “ Life’s Dream is o’er, farewell,” Miss and Mr S. Prosser (in response to an encore call, they repeated the la : st verse); “■ The Blacksmith’s Story ” was capitally given by Mr Beckway; piano solo, .“ Tarantelle,” Miss 0. Take; (an encore was loudly demanded, but Miss Tuke bowed her acknowledgment); song, Save a Sunny Smile for Me,” Mr Des Forges. During the interval refreshments, of which there was a plentiful supply were handed round. Tire second .part opened with an overture, > Mapch from Nativity,” Opunake 'String Band; song, f* The Brook,” Mrs Ballard ; song, “ Little Pat and the Parson,” Mr Hutchens ; song, “ British Lion,” Mr H. Middleton ; a violin solo was given by Mr Markham, Mr Seokamp playing the piano accompaniment; song, “Hop Pickers,” Mr Khobbs; (an imperative encore was demanded, and, in response, he repeated the last verse) ; song, “Oh! Steer My Bark,” Mr S. Prosser. R|iss Propsep and Mrs Clnistie played the’ accompaniments £ j the vocal items throughout the evening.
