A telephone office has been opened at Halswell, in Christchurch district. The distribution of School Buildings vote of 1893 was as follows Auckland, £BOOO • Taranaki, £lB7-5 ; Wanganui,. £3875 ; Wellington. £IBOO ; Hawke’s Bay, £2700 ; Marlborough, £1050; Nelson, £2900; Grev £1250; Westland, £900; North Canterbury £6750; Soutli Canterbury, £1750; Otaso £7000; Southland, £2975 8 ’ Another of the relies of the past is being removed from the Opunake redoubt. Mr Mclteynolds was the purchaser of one of the large buildings which were used by the Constabulary m the war times. He is removing it and having_ it erected on a section of his neat Hie wnarf, to be used as a store for goods arriving at the port. Messrs Fry and Hansen are the contractors, and are getting on expeditiously with Ihe work. b 8
