As Others See Us.

TARANAKI HERALD. The Opunake people can again boast of having a local newspaper published in their town, the Opunake Times appearing for the first time on Tuesday last. The copy before' us appears to be well edited and printed, with a quantity of local and country news. It deserves to be supported, nnd we hope it will prove a good property to its owner. DAILY NEWS. We have received the first issue of the Opunake Times. The paper is well printed, and contains a good variety of very readable matter. Mr Brennan occupies the editorial chair. We wish the promoters success in their undertaking. WAIMATE WITNESS. We have to acknowledge the receipt of the first issue of the Opunake Times. The paper is neatly got up, well printed, and presents a very creditable appearance. There is a good quantity of country news and a fair show of advertisements. The principal deficiency appears to be an absence of telegraphic news. The Times is published by Mr M. J. Brennan, but the journal does not state whether it is to appear as a weekly, bi-weekly, triweekly, or daily, or give any particulars as to price, &c. An error also appears in stating the distance from Manaia to Opunake as being GO miles instead of about 18. The policy of the paper is laid down as being one governed by " expediency," without being bound down by any hard and fast rule, the motto being, " Our district first, oar neighbors next." We cordially wish o.ir hew contemporary every sac.ess, but whilst having every confidence in the future of Opunake,

are afra : d that the present venture is rather premature, and that financially, for a few years at least, it will not fulfil the anticipations hoped for. [There were a turned lette:-, a comma left out, ar,d a dot missed from over an i which our lynx-oycu contemporary missed noticing, or perhaps, in his charity, refrained from mentioning as it was a first number. -En.] IXGLEWOOD RECORD. A c;>py ; of v the first issue of the Opunake Times has reached in. It is a very creditable literary production, being well printed, and seems to have received a fair measure of r-'apport from advertisers. May it enjoy long life auel prosperity.
