MAIL AND FREIGHT

GISBORNE-AUCKLAN D ONE-DAY SERVICE The information that the postal and railway authorities were cooperating, with a view to restoring the one time daily mail and transport service between Gisborne and Auckland, was received at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce. It is expected that an improved Gisborne-Auckland mail service will commence early in December, whereby three mails a week will depart each way. On two occasions there will be a 36-hour service, and the third will be somewhat longei, owing to the intervening week-end. The president, Mr. I. A. N. Corson, said he believed that the Government's promise to reinstate the daily mail and freight services should be honoured, and if it was not honoured the chamber should take the matter up. again with the Government.
