PROPAGANDA TO MAORIS
CANDIDATE’S . EXCEPTION Mr. W. Sullivan, National candidate for the Bay of Plenty, speaking to a meeting in Opotiki on Saturday night, made reference to a pamphlet printed by the Standard Press entitled, ‘The Maori way of Life,” and distributed to the Maori people, wherein it was stated that tire lie factory is now spreading its attack to the native race. In Tory eyes, said the pamphlet, these people arc idlers, thieves, defrauders, demoralised blackguards. This pamphlet tied in certain members of the National Party, naming Messrs Broadfoot, Morton, Goosrnan, Murdock, W. Sullivan and Smith. Mr. Sullivan took strong exception to this propaganda and stated it was a poor outlook for this country when political parties had to stoop to such low tactics. He himself had addressed many Maori meetings on policy at the request of the Maoris, and was perhaps more welcome amongst them than the Prime Minister. Such lotv political propaganda was to be deplored and did no credit to those who were responsible for the issue.
