That there is no royal road tc success in regard to racing was exemplified last Saturday when the New Zealand Cup was run, ana one of the outsiders of the field of 23 runners won the principal fiat race of the Dominion and .paid his few supporters over £l6O for a win ticket. On the other han't the bigsprint event saw the favourite score rather easily. It is this glorious uncertainty that gives racing its thrill.
