A Correction. During the meeting addressed by Mr. W. Sullivan in Opotiki on Saturday night a questioner drew attention to an error which occurred in a report, of an address given by Mr. S. G. Holland in Opotiki. The newspaper report contained an extra nought, and the error would have been obvious to all'.who had read the oft quoted figure. The sentence should have read, “£16,000,000 more was paid for the produce to the New Zealand Government than it paid to the -primary producer.” Shortage of Envelopes. There is at present a considerable shortage of envelopes in' New Zealand and this position is likely to continue for some time. The shortage is due entirely to the paper famine and in the case of view or “window” envelopes used for accounts etc. the material for making the “windows” is not obtainable overseas. The Government and paper merchants have made every endeavour to secure supplies but without success. A Dangerous Practice. Girls who were sitting on the beach near the bar under some trees on Saturday afternoon had a rather alarming experience whenbullets began to land around them. The offenders were apparently some school boys, who were unaware of the presence of the girls and were firing indiscriminately along the beach. In the past too many cases of this sort have been reported from the rivers and beaches, and last year the police were compelled to take action. If youths wish to practice with firearms they should (ind some safe spot where there are no picnickers or swimmers, otherwise a serious accident may result. Numbers At Polling Booths, We have been asked to especially impress on electors that the obtaining of numbers on the electoral rolls from persons outside the polling booths is no part of the official set-up, and electors need not necessarily obtain their numbers or answer any- questions to persons outside the booths. The deputy-return-ing officer inside the booth is the only person to whom the voter need answer questions. In the past some errors have occurred through the wrong number being handed out to a voter before he enters the booth. The deputy-returning officer is- the only person wlio need satisfy himself as to the identity of the voter.
