TO THE EDITOR

DAIRY ASSN. AFFAIRS Sir, —Mr. Holman’s suggestion about an improved cream docket is quite good. In the writer’s travels, Opotiki factory is the only factory with the antique method of weighing in cream that he-knows of. Other factories believe in showing the gross weight on the dial for all to see and the weights of the cans are then added up and put on the docket with the gross weight’ and the answer to this sum is the nett weight of the cream. Under this system everything is recorded whereas in Opotiki’s antiquated way only the answer they make it, is recorded. No slur is cast on any one. Ask any school teacher how many there are who-are 100 per cent proficient in mental arithmetic ! The chairman, when referring to the quality of the butter at the Opotiki Dairy Association and was blaming the supply and pastures, evidently has forgotten that there was another factory operating in these parts which had worked up to fifth place on the grading list and would by now, no doubt, \yith plant, staff, and supply of Opotik* factory, have been second to none had it still been operating and the suppliers and residents of this district would be receiving 94 grade butter. With a directorate of successful farmers and a pig-farm manager versed in pig husbandry, it is a wonder that there is not a constant supply of weaner pigs to meet the demand that is apparent every season and, may be, a profit would be shown on the operations. WEE MACK.
