WHOSE TO DECIDE WHEN DOCTORS DISAGREE ?
A circumstance occurred the other day which forcibly reminded us of the severed- hand affair, which most of our readers remember caused so much excitement some few years ago. In a cottage not a hundred miles from Oxford, a woman was having a general cleaning day, and as her scrubbing brush knocked against the lining boards a something fell out resembling a human hand, but- so mummified had it become by its long entombment, that none could decide except those skilled in anatomy to what particular animal this strange hand had been attached during life. Under the circumstances the good woman's husband submitted the specimen to the Police, and he in turn submitted it to-two professional gentlemen who, are supposed to possess more knowledge of anatomy than the quality of beer, but alas no definite conclusion could be arrived at. Both agreed that it was not human, but it might be the foot of a duck or a goose or anything else, Anyhow for the want of professional acumen the mystery of the Oxford severed hand Will probably remain for ever.
